FRIGID New York at Horse Trade is a self-sustaining theater development group, with a focus on new work that has produced a massive quantity of stimulating downtown theater. Horse Trade’s Resident Artist Program offers a home to a select group of Independent theater artists, pooling together a great deal of talent and energy. It is also the home of FRIGID Festival – the first and only festival of its kind in New York City – along with The Gotham Storytelling Festival, The Fire This Time Festival, STEM Fest and Burlesque Blitz.  In 2011, we received the New York Innovative Theatre Ellen Stewart Stewardship Award for demonstrating a significant contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community through service, support and leadership.

Horse Trade’s continuing mission is to seek out new art, new artists, and new audiences. We do this by creating an accessible community of varied voices that value collaboration, resourcefulness, and innovation. We provide a home for independent theater artists, we nurture their development, and we help establish their careers by promoting their work to local, national, and international audiences.

  1. I saw The Haunting of St Mark’s place and cannot tell you how much i loved this production, my first intro to your group and to Under St Marks Theater!! I think this should be presented on radio, WBAI in particular and elsewhere if possible. Needs a wider audience it is soooo very terrific. I will tell everyone I meet about your work.
